בגיל 40 ואחרי 20 שנות קריירה מקצוענית, הודיע הלילה (בין רביעי לחמישי) דידייה דרוגבה כי הוא פורש מכדורגל. החלוץ מחוף השנהב, שזכור בעיקר מהתקופה הנהדרת בצ’לסי, שיחק בשנים האחרונות בארה”ב, אולם כעת החליט לתלות את הנעליים ולא להמשיך לעונה נוספת.
דרוגבה העלה תמונה באינסטגרם מתחילת דרכו כילד על המגרש וכתב: “כשאני חושב על 20 השנים האחרונות שלי ומסתכל על התמונה הזה, אני לא יכול להיות יותר גאה על מה שהשגתי כשחקן, אבל הדבר החשוב ביותר הוא המסע הזה, שעיצב אותי כאדם. אם מישהו אומר לכם שהחלומות שלכם גדולים מדי, פשוט תגידו תודה ותעבדו קשה יותר ובחוכמה כדי להפוך אותם למציאות”.
דרוגבה: "הפרק עם גרנט תרם לזכיה באלופות"דרוגבה החל את הקריירה שלו בצרפת בלה מאן ולאחר מכן בגנגאן ובמארסיי. משם, עבר לצ’לסי בה חווה את שיא פריחתו עם 164 שערים ב-381 משחקים, כולל זכייה באליגת האלופות ב-2012 ובארבע אליפויות אנגליה. הוא עזב לסין, שיחק גם בגלטסראיי, אך גם חזר לסיבוב שני בצ’לסי ב-2014/15, לפני שעזב לארה”ב.

Quand je pense aux 20 dernières années de ma carrière professionnelle, regarder cette photo de ma première licence, ne peut que me rendre plus fier de ce que j’ai accompli en tant que joueur mais plus important encore, comment cette aventure à fait de moi l’homme que je suis aujourd’hui. Si quelqu’un vous dit un jour que vos rêves sont trop grands, acquiescez et travaillez plus dur plus intelligemment pour les rendre réalité!!!! J’aimerai remercier tous les joueurs, coachs, équipes, et supporters, que j’ai rencontré et ont fait de cette carrière un moment très spécial.
