אחרי שסיבוב ח' של גביע המדינה הסתיים עם מספר הפתעות בדמות הדחת בית"ר ירושלים על ידי בני לוד, מכבי ת"א על ידי הפועל ירושלים והפועל ראשל"צ שהפסידה 2:0 בביתה לבית"ר כפ"ס, תיערך הערב (שלישי) ב-19:00 הגרלת שמינית הגמר.
הגרלת הגביע תועבר בשידור חי בערוץ ב-ONE TV LIVE וכן ב"אולפן הספורט" בערוץ ONE, ערוץ 50 עם פתיחת ההגרלה.
שמונה קבוצות בלבד מליגת העל נשארו במפעל: מכבי חיפה, הפועל ת"א (מחזיקת הגביע), קרית שמונה, הפועל ב"ש, מכבי פ"ת, מכבי נתניה, הפועל ניר רמה"ש ומ.ס אשדוד.
הליגה הלאומית זוכה ל-7 נציגות: הפועל ירושלים, הפועל ר"ג, בני לוד, מכבי א.א. פאחם, הפועל כפ"ס, הפועל נצרת עילית ומכבי הרצליה.
הנציגה המפתיעה ביותר היא בית"ר כפ"ס מליגה א'. החבורה של חיים סירוטקין ניצחה 0:2 בחוץ את הפועל ראשל"צ, והפכה לסינדרלה הנוכחית של גביע המדינה. משחקי שמינית הגמר יתקיימו בתאריכים 20-21 במארס.
